Welcome back to the Beauty on a Budget: Skincare Savings series! If you haven’t read my latest post on skincare savings featuring cleansers, I encourage you to give it a read through.
Toners have so many beneficial effects which include removing extra dirt and makeup that may have been missed in the cleansing process, unclogging pores, restoring pH balance (especially for oily skin), and can even act as a chemical exfoliator. A toner should leave your skin feeling refreshed and work to eventually give you a natural glow.

Witch hazel has been around for centuries, so that tells you that this is a trusted toner. The rose petal infused toner is excellent for those who have dry skin due to the alcohol-free formula. It also provides the extra benefit of aloe vera, which has properties of soothing and moisturizing the skin.
This toner is ideal for those with sensitive skin. With the main ingredient being Allantoin, it has healing as well as soothing properties and also acts as a gentle exfoliator. It’s alcohol-free, has chamomile extract, and pro-vitamin B5 which work to calm skin irritation and keep it feeling supple.
Working great for oily skin, this witch hazel toner has the ability to remove impurities by gently extracting the excess oil from your skin. It’s common to see the combination of oily skin and large pores. This non-drying formula will work to tighten and refine pores so that you can maintain a smooth flawless look.
Micellar Water is one of my favourite products hands down! It’s amazing that it’s not pricier as it truly is the all-in-one toner. It can range from a quick refresher after a workout to a full-on facial toner after cleansing the skin. I can attest, it removes all dirt, oil, and makeup without making your skin feel stripped. With the main ingredient of glycerin, it works to restore moisture and life back into your skin. Whatever you choose to use it for, you won’t be disappointed.
Okay, so I have to warn you that this toner is not for those with sensitive skin as it has a pH of 3.6 (The closer the pH is to 0, the more acidic the content). This toner doubles up as a chemical exfoliator. It’s main ingredient, glycolic acid, works to smooth uneven textured skin as well as brighten by exfoliating dead skin cells. This should only be used only ONCE a day, ideally in the night. I personally mix this product with a milder toner so that it’s not as harsh on my skin.
Just as the name says, the triple-action works to clear and prevent acne, remove excess oil, and refresh skin for a soothing effect. As it’s an oil extracting toner, this would work ideally for those with oily, acne prone skin. This toner is also a great for those with sensitive skin as the cucumber and green tea extract work to combat redness and irritation.
e.l.f. products are highly underrated in my opinion. The e.l.f. makeup and skincare lines are known for selling low priced products that work just like a high-end brand. This toner has the key ingredient Hyaluronic acid, which keeps the skin hydrated and reduces the appearance of fine lines. I recommend this toner for those of you with dry skin.
Beauty Tip: Allow your toner to completely dry on your face (about one minute) before apply any other product on top. This will ensure that your toner penetrates your skin to give you the maximum benefit.
Whether you have oil skin, dry skin, sensitive skin, or textured skin, there is an affordable toner just for you. So ladies, there’s no need for skipping the toner application in your skincare routine now.
