Acne clearing products, skin brighteners, blemish treatments, moisturizers and the list goes on. habits for glowing skin

People often ask me how I get glowing radiant skin. Now my skin is not perfect by any means, but I’ve seen a dramatic difference since I’ve started focusing on taking care of what I put INTO my body opposed to just what I put ON my body. I’ve always struggles with acne and hyperpigmantation. I’ve probably used every acne fighting product out there! It wasn’t until I changed my diet and daily routine that my skin did a complete 180.

Get Your Blood Pumping

Exercise is the key to an overall healthy lifestyle. It increases the blood flow which nourishes our cells with oxygen. Exercising also helps us sweat out toxins so that our skin can be at its healthiest. I was the type of person that would exercise here and there, but not on a consistent basis. I kept on making excuses because I work night shifts. I finally decided that I needed to become disciplined if I wanted to have an overall healthy life. When I started working out 4-5 days a week, I felt the immediate difference in my body and skin.

Eat The Rainbow

I really wish I was talking about skittles! How many times have we been told to eat our fruits and vegetables growing up? Of course I know that fruits and vegetables are full of vitamins and minerals, but I was shocked when I saw how much my skin cleared up just from changing my diet. It’s recommended to have 4-5 servings of fruit and vegetables every, so I try to incorporate them in every meal now. Normally after my workout, I would have a green smoothie to start off my day and get my greens in.

Green Smoothie Recipe:

2 handfuls of Spinach

1 cup of Frozen fruits (I use a mix of Strawberries, Peaches, and mangoes)

1 tsp of chia seeds

1/2 tsp of ginger

1/2 cup to 1 cup of water

Blend and Enjoy!

I Got 99 Problems and Drinking Water Ain’t One

I literally drink water like my life depends on it. I’ve made it an essential in my daily routine and can’t go anywhere without my water bottle. The human body is made up of of just about 70% of water. What service would we be doing to out bodies to not replenish our cells with water we’ve lost throughout the day? I drink at least 2 litres of water daily. Sometimes if I need some flavour to it, I’ll just add lemon and cucumber slices. Lemon contains vitamin C and cucumber contains Vitamin B and C. Drinking water daily has definitely cleared my breakouts and given me radian skin!

Don’t Neglect Your Vitamin B

The B stands for Biotin. As a nurse, I knew Biotin had its advantages, but I never knew how much Biotin could change my skin. It works in the body to metabolize fats which leads to clearer skin. For some people, Biotin causes breakouts; which is probably due to not drinking enough water while taking them. I however have found it to be so beneficial for skincare routine. I like to take the Nature’s Bounty Hair, Skin, and Nails gummies as they contain Vitamin C, Vitamin E and Biotin.

Cut the Sugar

This one was easily the toughest for me because I LOVE desserts. I wouldn’t even eat them in moderation. I never imagined that I could let go out eating sugar, but it was so worth it. Eating too much sugar was majorly contributing my reoccurring breakouts, which I knew, but I was just stubborn. I finally had to cut out the excess sugar. The first week was the worst! But eventually I began to adjust to it. Now I’m at the point where I rarely crave sugar. Seeing how much my skin cleared up is my biggest motivation.

Get Your Zzzz’s In

This One was also extremely tough for me. I can’t even remember the last time I got a full 8 hours of sleep. As I mentioned, I work night shifts, which only further adds to the problem. I cannot stress enough how important sleep is for your overall wellbeing. Sleeping is the period when our cells repair themselves. When we don’t get enough sleep, not only our body and brains suffer, but our skin does too. This is something that I’m still working and trying to get at least 6 hours of uninterrupted sleep. When I do get a sufficient amount of rest, I can see and feel the difference in my skin.

These are my healthy habits for glowing skin that I’ve developed over time. If you are struggling with breakouts and have tried almost every product out there, I encourage you to evaluate what you’re doing to/putting in your body.

Let’s chat in the comment section. Are there habits you’ve adapted that have changed your skin?
